Sunday afternoon my son Chris put me onto a new group that I’d not heard of before… Old Crow Medicine Show… and, frankly, they’re terrific!
Rather than raving about them with words, let me turn you on to their music.
If this song doesn’t make you want to grab your baby and dance up a storm, then I hope there’s someone up there to open the Pearly Gates because you’re deader than a flattened frog on the Interstate.
Turn up the volume on your speakers (if you’re at work, put in your earbuds and then turn up the volume) and get ready to feel great because you’re about to listen to Old Crow Medicine Show’s wonderful Wagon Wheel!
How’s that for great?
Seriously, that’s just about the dancingest tune I’ve heard since Grandpappy Wyeth won the gold ribbon at the 1963 Pink Beds fiddling contest.
You can learn more about Old Crow Medicine Show on their website.

Hi Chet,
Great Song. Thanks for passing it along.
Tom
Fabulous! Thank you Chet – off to check their website
It just had to come from you Chet! I did get my old bones rocking!!!
OMG!!! Chet, I am unemployed and depressed and thought I was really close to the Pearly Gates, at least in spirit, but I find myself not so close after all! Don’t have a “baby” so I grabbed my cat and took a whirl. I LOVE IT – smile should last until I play it again!
Irene, hang in there! And when you get blue, I have some other happiness-inspiring vids in the music section.
I think each of them so far is magical in its own way, but you can’t go wrong with the amazing video of Stand by Me here. That one always gets me moving toward the light and away from the darkness.
Everyone else… thanks for commenting and I’m happy you’re liking Wagon Wheel as much as I do.
Chet
That is some good toe tapping, head bobbing music! Awesome way to begin a lovely wonderful weekend!
Thanks so much Chet, and thanks for spreading such simple yet powerful words throughout our world.
Smiles and hugs!
Gretchen
I don’t like country music, so it didn’t make me want to dance. I am, however, highly offended at your statement that that makes me “deader than a flattened frog on the Interstate”.
I wouldn’t myself classify “Wagon Wheel” as country music since it’s more of a blend of multiple genres. As for anyone being “highly offended” by what any skull enclosure (i.e., head) with a minimal number of functioning braincells would immediately recognize as an attempt at amusing, hyperbolic metaphor, frankly, I’m speechless.

After several minutes trying to get my response correct and being unable to do so all I can say is – Good Luck, there are probably many things that you take offense to, but fortunately there are many more things that are offered to us each day that we should cherish and enjoy if we choose to.
Love it! Gonna perk up my friends with this one!
Dear Chet,
Thanks for the nice “notes.” This sounds like rockin’ bluegrass to me. Certainly brightened my day.

Toe tapping? Head bobbing? Turn your speakers up!
I was dancing around the room like I haven’t done for years!!!
I absolutely love it, Chet!
Can’t stop playing it.
A great tonic to lift the spirits after a very long winter…thank you so very much!

Nice and countrified with smooth harmonies to boot! Kick ass hillbilly music… I love it!
Thanks Chet

It’s almost eight o’clock Friday evening as I write these words, and I’m chuckling to myself because I’m still listening to this darn song once or twice an hour and will no doubt continue to do so until midnight when I hang it up for the day.
It’s sort of freaky because when I took a break to walk our big old dog Sparky his daily 1.3 miles a couple hours ago, I found myself moseying along next to him and kinda moving my body in tune to “Wagon Wheel,” which was looping stereophonically in my ol’ brain — talk about a phonogramic memory, eh?
Thanks also to all who have commented since my last comment above. Keep those thoughts and reactions about the song coming in. I love reading these replies and hearing that this tune my son Chris put me onto has made other people as happy as it makes me.
Chet
Hi Chet–nice tune, thanks for sharing. Did you know Steve Martin is a
wicked good banjo player/song writer, in addition to all his other talents?
His CD, “The Crow” came out earlier this year. To me, it’s worth every
penny and then some. A few of the tunes are more country, which is not
something I normally listen to, but they were done so well, I forgave him.
All in all, an excellent job, and the liner notes are delightful. I LOVE it,
can you tell?!
Lori, thanks for lead on this. I think Steve Martin is a tremendously talented guy and I’m definitely going to check out his CD. I’ve never tried playing a banjo, but I have to admit I’m thinking about giving it a whirl because I like the way the banjo sounds so much on Wagon Wheel. That’s all I need — another something to get fascinated with.
One of the things I like about getting older is that I find myself more and more interested in more and more things, which is really a problem given the limited number of hours in a day and in a life time. I’ve always been interested in new things, but lately the growing fascination with just about everything new that comes before me has opened up a multitude of exciting vistas for the future.
I think Steve Martin’s like that. He does so many things… and he does them so well. And that goes all the way back to the days when he used to host Saturday Night Live with an arrow sticking through his head.
Chet
That’s a foot patin rhythm …kinda wakes you up. I play a standard 6 string guitar. They also make a 6 string banjo. This makes learning the banjo much easier. You just have to master the pickin.
Thanks for the musical e-mail.

Well, I like this song alot too. I am sitting in my living room and my daughter started singing along when I started playing it. She loves that song…she also loves NIN and Marilyn Manson…so go figure. Anyway, delightful happy song. Thank you!
Hey Chet–my brain is still in 2009–which is when Steve’s CD came out.
I think it’s great that you’re considering the banjo–very cool. I have
no concept of the “I’m bored” attitude, there are infinite possibilities, and
not nearly enough time in one life!
Hi Chet,
Great decision to send along the Old Crow Medicine Show song!!! It really did put a big ole smile on my face…..loved it. My friends/family were also thrilled to have received it, after I sent it along to them.
In regards to you learning to play the banjo……go for it. I just recently was sent the following link of a 7 year old gal (now 11 years old) who taught herself how to yodel/sing. I am guessing that you will really enjoy her short video and I hope to see your banjo playing video down the road…if you master it!!!
If the link below doesn’t load…..just google the words
